Railways open ‘luxury salon coach’ to common man for the first time

Opening its door for the first time, Railways is providing a great facility by operating its salon coach for the common people for its maiden tour to Katra. The private coach which was only available for the top railway officials was occupied by six people when it pulled off from the Old Delhi Railway station.

The coach is equipped with amenities like two exclusive air-conditioned bedrooms with attached bath, a large living cum dining room, kitchenette and rear window for unobstructed views. IRCTC has even called it a ‘moving house’. The privately-occupied saloon coach comes with valet service.

According to the IRCTC officials, the cost of the salon coach is around 2 Lakh. These six people were the first to book this salon and it was booked by M/s Royal India Train Journeys.

“This will be an all-inclusive tour where the guests will be offered all the comfort of a hotel. Exclusive staff will be available for services on board. Railway also provides one AC attendant and one saloon attendant for ensuring hassle-free travel,” IRCTC said.

From now on, the saloons are available for charter for the common people and the details are available on the IRCTC website, it said. The Railways has a total of 336 saloon cars across railway zones, among them 62 are air-conditioned.
