Kangana Ranaut drawn into call data (CDR) scam, lashes out at the police, dismisses all allegations

Date:

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut was summoned by the police in Maharashtra’s Thane on Tuesday in connection with a call data record (CDR) scam. Her name along Ayesha Shroff, the wife of actor Jackie Shroff, came up during the questioning of a lawyer, Rizwan Siddiqui, who was arrested last week. The actress lashed out at them in an official statement issued on Wednesday.

The scandal concerns the extraction of call details from private detectives and surfaced in January when four detectives were arrested on a tip-off.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police from Thane crime branch, Abhishek Trimukhe had shared on Tuesday that Kangana may have given the mobile number of Hrithik Roshan to her advocate and celebrity lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui back in the year 2016.

The DCP said, “investigation has revealed that Kangana Ranaut had shared Hrithik Roshan’s mobile number and shared it with the accused Rizwan Siddiqui in 2016, a reason for that is not known yet, the probe is on.”

Refuting the allegations, Kangana has slammed the police, calling out their actions as irresponsible. Here’s what her full official statement read:

“When we respond to a notice, we give all details to a lawyer. To assume that these details were used to violate the law and make statements based on that assumption and defame an artist is irresponsible on Abhishek Trimukhe’s part. A proper investigation should be carried out before making assumptions.”

However, Kangana Ranaut is not the first one to be called up by Thane police in connection with a call data record (CDR) scam.

Earlier this month, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui was also summoned by the police in the same scam. However, the actor emphatically denied being a part of the racket and paying to spy on his wife.

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court slammed the Thane police for not following procedure before arresting Rizwan Siddiqui following which he was released this evening.
