Kenny Bachman was pretty drunk after partying hard in Morgantown, West Virginia. So he decided not to drive and called an Uber instead.
When he woke up after two hours, he realized that instead of selecting the place where he was staying near the West Virginia University’s campus, he had “selected the option for his home in Gloucester County, New Jersey — 300 miles away from his intended drop location,” according to reports.
Not only that, “while choosing the car option he also opted for UberXL, which can hold up to six passengers,” TIME reported, and ended up with a whopping bill of $1,635.93 (Rs 1.06 lakh)! “Do not drink and drive,” is the cliche, Bachman has proved that even if your aren’t in the driver’s seat, you still could end up paying a hefty price for drinking.
Once the ride ended, Bachman realized his mistake, but it was too late. It took while for the full impact of the “crazy ride” to sink in, but Uber confirmed that the “ride happened and hence he had to pay the full price,” the reports added.
In a similar episode in January this year, an unnamed drunk man ended up with a hefty taxi bill of $2,200 (roughly Rs. 1.4 lakh) after travelling through three countries starting off in Denmark, passing through Sweden and finally arriving in Norway.
Reports suggest that the drunk man “entered the taxi after a New Year Eve party and asked the driver to take the 372-mile trip.”
In another episode, an Uber customer in Toronto (Canada) was mistakenly charged $18,518.50 (Canadian dollars) for a five-mile, say reports. The 21-minute ride should have cost between $12 to $16. Later though, the passenger was refunded the entire amount.
