There can hardly be anything more joyful than winning a match for your team. But when you are a goalkeeper and you win it by scoring goal, it is no more a normal thing.
It was a similar night for Lugo’s goalkeeper Juan Carlos in a Segunda Division clash against Sporting Gijon on Sunday. The goalkeeper, who had never scored a goal in his pro career, scored a screamer from 60 yards to seal the game for his team. What was even more worthy was the fact that it was his 30th birthday.
When a goalkeeper scores a goal normally the opposition goalkeeper misjudges the bounce of the ball.

Iriome Gonzalez scored the opener in just the 10th minute for Lugo. But Carlos Carmona Bonet scored from the spot to level things. 9 minutes later Lugo were up 2-1, thanks to Jaime Romero. But Gijon were searching intensely for the equaliser. Just when it looked like we were headed for a thrilling finish to the second division league of Spain, Carlos casually kicked the ball and that caught the opposite number off-guard. It was not an awkward bounce, which is case in such long distance goals, rather it was hit firmly and it went blazing into the nets.
One almost has to feel sorry for Iriome Gonzalez and Jaime Romero, who scored Lugo’s other goals in the Segunda Division clash and now have their strikes totally overshadowed by Carlos’ wonderful effort.
