Swiss couple assaulted in Fatehpur Sikri; Sushma Swaraj seeks report from UP govt

Agra: A Swiss couple was assaulted by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur Sikri on Sunday afternoon, as the group of men stalked and harassed them near the railway station.

The attack left the man with severe head injuries and the woman with injury to her left arm. Initially they were taken to the community health centre from where they were referred to Agra and later to Delhi’s Apollo hospital.

According to a report in ToI , the victims are identified as Quentin Jeremy Clerc and Marie Droxz, both 24, the couple arrived India on September 30 and reached Agra on Saturday.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj ordered inquiry into the matter and asked the UP government for a report.

Following a visit to the Taj Mahal, they reached Fatehpur Sikri on Sunday. They were roaming around the railway station and then the miscreants started stalking them. The assaulters also reportedly passed comments and started taking photographs on their phones, even after the objections raised by the couple.

As quoted in the report, Quentin said that four persons from a larger group were the ones who started trailing them and asked them where they were staying.

Later the miscreants hit Quentin on his head several times. They also attacked Marie, who then raised an alarm and people from the area came in to help, while the miscreants fled.

The report also suggests that Quentin was admitted to an ICU and he had suffered skull fracture and blood clot in the brain. This injury can also lead to hearing impairment. Marie was left with a broken arm and was reportedly operated on Tuesday.

Although the couple did not file any police complaint, but a non cognizable report (NCR) has been filed against four unknown persons.

According to another report, Pradeep Kumar, the in-charge of Fatehpur Sikri police station, said the couple was walking alongside a train track when locals assaulted them.

Police identified the arrested suspect as the brother of Mukul, who is the main accused in instigating the attack.
