India’s star opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan will, unfortunately, miss out the last ODI and only T20 of the Sri Lanka tour because he is on his way back home to attend his ailing mother.
“Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India tomorrow i.e. September 3rd to see his ailing mother. Mr Dhawan’s mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment,” said BCCI.
The selection committee has not named his replacement yet, however, Ajinkya Rahane is most likely to open the innings in the last match of the tour, where India is looking for a clean slate victory against the host Sri Lanka.
“Shikhar Dhawan won the golden bat in the Champions Trophy and performed tremendously in two test matches in the test series, so we all know he is such an impactful player. So, Rahane understands that at this moment, he is the third opener and we will certainly back him there because we have shifted him around a bit in the middle order as well and it is not right. But he has grabbed his opportunities well as he was the man of the series in West Indies, so he continues to be in the set-up” said Virat Kohli in a press conference.
If India wins the last ODI vs Sri Lanka, it will be the second consecutive series whitewash by India against Sri Lanka.
