New Delhi: The issue of the absence of celebrity Parliamentarian once again raised in the Rajya Sabha and the names of Rekha and Sachin Tendulkar echoed in the upper house as Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agrawal raised the issue, saying, “They should resign if they are not interested in Parliament, they are hardly present.”
If we go with statistics, according to PRS India, both Rekha and Tendulkar have attendance below 10% during the period from 1 June 2009 to 26 July 2017. Both Rekha and Tendulkar became the member of the Upper House on April 27, 2012.
As per the data available, 62-year-old Rekha has only 5% attendance. She has neither taken part in any discussion nor asked any question in five years. Her maximum attendance was 10 per cent during the Winter Session in 2013. In the 2013 Budget Session, she did not attend a single session.
She is the member of Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution.
While, the 44-year-old cricket legend, has just 7% attendance in five years. He has just asked 22 questions but has not taken part in any debate. His maximum attendance is 16% during the Budget Session in 2015. He did not attend a single session in 2012 Budget Session, 2012 Winter Session and 2013 Winter Session.
