In a stunning display of performance, Indian tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan beat world no. 8 Dominic Thiem in straight sets in the pre-quarterfinals of the the Antalya Open in Turkey on Tuesday.
Ramkumar has a world ranking of 222 but did not let his ranking decide the result of the match as the Indian singles player brushed aside Thiem by recording straight set victories of 6-3, 6-2. Ramkumar hit 10 aces and converted three break points to secure his victory.
Ramkumar will now face veteran Cyprus tennis star Marcos Baghdatis in the quarter final match. The Chennai-based player will be competing to win the tournament and secure the $439,000 prize money associated with the tournament.
What an exciting win for @ramkumar1994 .. beating a top 10 player should give him a lot of self belief on what he could be capable of..👏👏👏🇮🇳
