Nitish Kumar supports second term for Pranab Mukherjee as President

Date:

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) President Nitish Kumar has joined the discussion on the next Indian presidential candidate by stating that “would be good if Pranab Mukherjee became the President again” but also added that “the ruling party had to take the initiative.”

The Chief Minister’s comment comes at a time when the opposition is carrying out discussions on nominating a joint candidate for the President’s post as Sonia Gandhi is to meet BSP leader Mayawati, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and DMK leader MK Stalin over the coming days.

Nitish Kumar has stated that the “President represents the entire country and its people” and the ruling party should build a consensus on the presidential candidate with the opposition parties. If the ruling party cannot deliver, the opposition parties should nominate a joint candidate for the post.
