10 amazing Bollywood performances in 2016

Date:

1. Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab

alia-1

After Alia’s debut in KJo’s Student of the Year, she proved to be
modest and natural in Imtiaz Ali’s Highway. She chose to play a
migrant Bihari labourer in Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab and produced
the knock-out performance of the film. It was a commendable film which
had smashing performances by all its lead actors including Shahid
Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.

2. Amitabh Bachchan in Pink

pink-2

Amitabh Bachchan in Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink holds the movie
together. Bachchan uses his towering presence and baritone to
perfection, as Deepak Sehgal mansplains his way through the climax
about consent. It spread a strong message of ‘ No means No’. Even
Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Taring gave outstanding
performances.

3. Randeep Hooda in Sarbjit

sarbjit-3

Hooda has had some wonderful roles in numerous films. Whether it wasMahabir in Highway or Charles in Main Aur Charles, he has done his best. The Indian prisoner jailed in Pakistan, Sarbjit is played by Randeep Hooda. Sarabjit as a film is too loud and it undermines Hooda’ssubtle, subdued performance. One to be held in high regard for the sheer effort.

4. Radhika Apte in Phobia

phobia-4

Radhika Apte has done quite well in 2016. In Parched, she plays a

woman living the hinterland of Rajasthan and also a victim of domestic
abuse because of her inability to bear a child for her husband. In
Pawan Kripalani’s Phobia, Apte plays a woman scared of outside places
after an incident leaves her scarred for life. She is considered one
of the most fearless female actors of the year.

5. Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh

aligarh-5

The film was based on a real-life story of Shrinivas Ramchandra

Siras, a teacher at the Aligarh University who was sacked because he
is a homosexual. Manoj Bajpayee invests his life’s craft into the
character and builds someone you can’t help but feel for. Bajpayee’s
performance aces all the levels for the leading roles of the men in
the industry.

6. Sushant Singh Rajput in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story

dhoni-6

Sushant Singh Rajput gave us a beautifully nuanced performance of
India’s World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni walking the line of a
caricature and doing his own thing. Rajput is rightly known to be one
of the few studious young actors, and his performance as Dhoni bears
testament to his immense dedication to his craft. The film covers the
journey of the legendary cricketer is an alluring manner.

7. Kalki Koechlin in Waiting

waiting-7

She gave an incredible performance in Margarita With A Straw. Waiting
is a story of two strangers visiting their comatose partners meet in a
hospital and bond over their shared experiences. Kalki and Naseeruddin

watching. Kalki is known for her strong and intelligent character and

8. Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

ranbir-8

One of the bravest leading men performances in a long time, Ranbir
Kapoor demystifies everything macho about a Hindi film hero. He plays
the vulnerable man-child absolutely unable to move past rejection from
a girl he is irreversibly in love with. Ranbir Kapoor shows that even
men can be emotional when heartbroken.

9. Sonam Kapoor in Neerja

neerja-9

The 31-year-old actress was also honoured with the Best Actress award
at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne recently, for portraying the
PAN Am brave-heart Neerja Bhanot. The movie had a Box Office
collection of more than Rs 130 crore worldwide. Shabana Azmi, Yogendra
Tiku and Shekhar Ravjiani have given great performances. It is based
on a true incident of Neerja, a flight attendant who boarded Pan Am
flight 73 which was hijacked by terrorists in 1986.

10. Fawad Khan in Kapoor and Sons

fawad-10

Bollywood’s first homosexual lead character of Fawad Khan’s
performance in Shakun Batra’s Kapoor & Sons shows that Bollywood is
not only about the male actors being macho. Fawad has won the hearts
of many girls. The film has Rajat Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak
Shah and  Alia Bhatt. Fawad shines as the hot-shot writer and the
mature elder son of the family. Even as he poses with a macho
exterior, he portrays to be less macho from the inside.
