Meet Facebook’s new Diva; A Mumbaikar who stood up for Uber cabbie

Date:

Mumbai-based Himani Jain describes her unusual cab ride which resulted in her having to go to a police station. No, she wasn’t the one filing a complaint. She was just there to support her cab driver who was being falsely accused by her co-passenger. Here’s why.

Ms Jain booked a shared cab from her office on November 23.  She posted the incident further  in her facebook and she’s being hailed on social media as a heroine. Her post, shared on November 24, has received over 39,000 reactions and over 6,200 shares on Facebook.”The driver, Shahid (name changed), was very polite and well behaved. I was sharing

“The driver, Shahid (name changed), was very polite and well behaved. I was sharing cab with a lady, Gayatri (name changed), who was probably in her late thirties. She got into the cab and within a minute she started arguing with Shahid about the drop,” Ms Jain says on Facebook.

The driver tried to explain that he would have to follow the route and address on the app but the woman was having none of it. She got extremely upset, shouted at the driver and even threatened to slap him if he didn’t follow her instructions. The driver and Ms Jain both tried to pacify the woman but their efforts were in vain.

“By this time she lost her cool completely and asked Shahid to come to police station and asked me to join her in her complaint. When I disagreed she started verbally abusing me as well. Shahid ended my trip, apologized for the inconvenience and asked me to take another ride home,” she says.

Ms Jain insited and pleaded the the other woman not to go to the police station.”‘Madam, please

“‘Madam, please jao na police station, wo maar daalenge isko. Ladies ka case hai toh iska koi nahi sunega’ (Madam, please go to the police station. They’ll kill him there. Since this case has a woman involved, no one will listen to him),” Ms Jain was told.

Ms Jain, already late and apprehensive about having to go the police station (never having gone to one ever before), was hesitant. She, however, couldn’t let the driver suffer the consequences for something he didn’t do and decided to go along with them to a police station in Powai.

We’ll let you read Ms Jain’s post in its entirety to know how the drama unfolded at the police station. There’s also a funny and unexpected twist in this story, but we’re not giving it away.

Here’s what she posted:

Asked if the cab company contacted her after the incident, she said:

“They asked about the driver and said they would look into the matter and check the customer’s background before taking any action.”

Her post is going viral in social media and creating raves.
