‘A friendly conversation starts with a beer‘, keeping this sentence in mind a veteran backpacker was able to hitchhike and came all the way from Edinburgh to Delhi with a currency nobody could guess, yes it was ‘beer’!
During Manny Marshall’s five thousand mile adventure he shared 120 cans of Innis and Gunn craft beer with all the people whom he took free rides from and accommodation.
Mr. Marshall, 42 have spent 15 years exploring the world and writes blog, Raw Safari.
But he always chose roads rather than braving the high seas. Mr. Marshall gladly shared his experiences on social media.
He hitchhiked through France, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Greece before he was flown to India by Innis & Gunn to complete the final 900-mile leg of the trip.
In a report, he said he met all kinds of people from high court judges to convicts, to a mum with her kids on the way to school and families going on holiday.
None of the drivers took payment from him as they were pleased with his kindness and rewarded him with an unexpected token of thanks.
When it came to couch surfing, Mr. Marshall explained that his hosts welcomed beer to cover the costs of his stay and were thankfully all fairly sociable.
He revealed if he has two days to a destination he would rather spend it with his couch surfing host than trekking around taking in the sites as, ‘the temples will always be there.’ He also said he is doing hitchhiking for a long time but this was his toughest challenge.
