Shivangi was a teenager, when she use to sell newspapers and magazines with her father and studied in a government school. They hail from Deha village, about 60 kms from Kanpur.
She came across the Super 30 program of Anand kumar, and got selected in it on merit basis. Super 30, is an educational programme for aspiring engineers from extremely poor families to crack IIT-JEE. Shivangi approached him and was selected for the programme. She made it to IIT and is now earning for herself and her family.

Her story was shared by Kumar on Facebook who was very emotional about her success. He said she became a family member. “She would address my mother as ‘dadi’ and we felt she is our daughter. Whenever my mother’s health was impaired, she would help and sleep next to her,” he wrote.
