While carrying on a promotion press conference for his court room drama ‘PINK’, Shoojit Sircar pointed out that why do we as a society only questions about women’s virginity. “Asking women ‘are you a virgin?’ is a strong statement, but we never ask the men about the same,” said Sircar.
During the conversation, megastar Amitabh Bachchan too asserted, “If you are asking a woman, ‘are you a virgin?’ then you should ask the same to men.
When pointed that the movie seems to be targeting the urban society, Sircar said, “I have a language which I use in my film making. I am born and brought up in urban areas- may that be Delhi or Mumbai. So, I understand the urban language. But I will try to take this movie to towns and villages. But this movie has its own language.”
Virginity is considered to be as a criteria of judgment for a woman but in case of a man it is an indifferent subject. A women is judged on her virginity but a man is not. A woman’s respect supposedly lies in the break of her hymen, but in case of a man, it is an act of chivalry.
