12-year-old Shahan Ali Mohsin secured a splendid win in Round 3 of the Asia Max Karting Championship, becoming the first Indian in all ages to do so. The championship was held at the Elite Speedway of Malaysia and managed to fend off tough competition coming from rival Hayden Haikal to take home the title. The Team Top Kart Asia driver now leads the Asia Max Karting championship by 20 points in the Micro Max category.

The weekend looked dim for Shahan as he was brought with a case of food poisoning, making his participation in the race questionable. He missed out on the practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, but managed to make it to the track on Saturday despite a slow recovery. Nevertheless, the young racer was in action right from the word go ensuring the stay within the top 3 spots and was on pole in the qualifying too.

However, the Heats were difficult for the 12-year-old kart driver after being squeezed off track in Heat 1, eventually recovering to finish fourth. Heat 2 saw retire after being hit by another driver, ending his run unexpectedly.

Starting second in the pre-finals, Shahan engaged in a fierce competition with Amer Harris, with both the racers passing each other through out the race multiple times with Shahan securing second place, while rival Hayden Haikal finished a distant third. With Shahan holding a slight advantage over rivals, the second round saw the battle get even fierce as Amer, Hayden and Shahan were engaged in a three-way fight. As the drivers switched places frequently throughout the race, Amer managed to lead in the end, while Hayden finished second followed by Shahan for third. The top three drivers finished within a difference of 0.2 seconds.

The final race saw Shahan loose the lead initially, but managed to move back in the dominating position of the race by Lap 7. The young driver from Agra managed to maintain his lead from hereon, despite exchanging between first and second place as Amer Harris and Hayden Haikal posed as tough competitors. Shahan, nevertheless, moved ahead in the splendid overtake, crossing the finish line 0.097 seconds ahead of Amer, followed by Hayden. As numbers were crunched, Shahan emerged four points ahead thanks to his consistent performance over the weekend which handed him the title.
