Liquor issue: Swaraj Abhiyan wants Kejriwal’s wife to step in

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Stepping up its attack on the Delhigovernment over its liquor policy and issuing of alcohollicenses to 399 vends, the Swaraj Abhiyan today soughtintervention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wifeSunita over the issue. Group of women protesters from Swaraj Abhiyan also soughta meeting with Sunita at Chief Minister’s 6, Flagstaff Roadresidence. Sources, however, said there was no meeting betweenSunita and the women protesters. In a letter to Sunita, Swaraj Abhiyan urged her to give"good sense" to the Chief Minister. "If possible, please put forth our request before Arvindji. He could, perhaps, listen to you because he has not beenable to understand our point…otherwise in a span of one andhalf years he would not have given 399 alcohol licenses inDelhi. "He (Kejriwal) perhaps does not understand that earningmoney out of liqour is not a good thing," the letter said. Kejriwal is away to attend the canonisation of MotherTeresa at the Vatican City. Swaraj Abhiyan has been attacking the Kejriwal governmentfor allegedly issuing 399 alcohol licenses. It has also beenholding public hearings against vends, which it claimed, wereopened without the consent of locals. It will hold a similar public hearing demanding closure ofa liquor vend at Burari tomorrow. PTI PRKUN
