Tesla has announced a new 100kWh battery pack for it’s range topping Model S and Model X that will make both the cars quicker than ever. The company claims that the Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode will hit 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds making it the quickest accelerating current production car.
Yes, the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were quicker than this but as both were limited editions, they are no longer in production now.
The sibling Model X SUV isn’t too far in the numbers as it’s now able to hit 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds using the P100D pack with Ludixrous mode. The new battery pack will also boost the driving range of the Model S to an EPA-estimated 315 miles and of Model X to an EPA-estimated 289 miles.
The current owners of the Model S P90D Ludicrous versions don’t have to be sad because Tesla says that they can upgrade to the 100kWh pack for an extra $20,000.
Also the customers who have ordered for P90D Ludicrous haven’t taken delivery yet, can upgrade to the more powerful version for an extra $10,000.
The base price for the Model S P100D is set at $134,500 while the Model X is still to be revealed.
