Thieves steal diamond jewellery worth Rs 3 crore from house

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) In one of the biggest houseburglaries in the national capital, thieves decamped withvaluables including diamond jewellery worth Rs three crore andRs 60,000 cash from a bungalow in Defence Colony area in southDelhi, police said today. The burglary was reported from the bungalow of one TanmaySeth in the posh Anand Lok residential area in Defence Colonyon Sunday night, said a senior police officer. The family of Tanmay, son-in-law of Jet Airways vicepresident(security) Avneet Singh, had gone to attend amarriage at around 9 pm on Sunday and there appeared to becertain lapses on the part of the family that facilitatedaccess of the thieves in the bungalow, police said. The theft was disclosed when the family returned from themarriage ceremony, in the wee hours of Monday. "The incident was reported around 4 AM yesterday and thefamily told the police that the main gate was left open sothat they don’t have to wake up anyone when they returned. Awindow of the house was not bolted and the thieves had an easyentry ," said Nupur Prasad, additional DCP-I (South). The thieves are believed to have entered the bedroom onthe first floor of the bungalow through the open window andcollected the valuables and jewelleries kept in an almirahthere, police said. The bungalow had also no security arrangements and therewas no security guard on the gate. CCTV cameras too were notinstalled there, they said. Two maids and a servant employed by the family werepresent in the bungalow and were reportedly sleeping at thetime of the theft. Forensic team has collected fingerprints from the placeto screen the suspects and teams are working on CCTV footageof the nearby area. A case has been registered at the Defence Colony policestation. The maids and servant and locals including securityguards of the residential area were thoroughly questioned bythe police but so far there were no clues about the burglars.PTI SLB VITRG
