Close to the solution of Zika Virus: three Zika vaccines could come as rescue. The report published in the journal Science have mentioned three different experimental Zika vaccines being developed in the United States.
These vaccines have worked well in rhesus-monkey studies, can now be up for human trials, researchers said on Thursday.
The mosquito-borne virus can cause severe birth defects, is currently spreading in 50 countries and territories. Main regions are Latin America, the Caribbean and the US state of Florida.
The study “showed complete protection against both Brazilian and Puerto Rican strains of Zika.”
Dan Barouch, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, said “Three vaccines provided complete protection against Zika virus in nonhuman primates, which is the best animal model prior to starting clinical trials.” He is also the senior author.
