Food grain output increased inspite of low rains

Amid the news of El Nino and changing tide of the nature, good news for Indian households has come up. The fourth advance estimates, reported marginal rise to 252.22 million tonnes in the 2015-16 crop year (July-June).

Production of rice, wheat, coarse cereals, pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton and jute was lower due to erratic rainfall during the 2015 monsoon season. The output in 2013-14 was 265.04 million tonnes.
