Time to kill at Delhi’s IGI Airport, here is what to do

Things to do when you have too much time on your hands in the Indira Gandhi International Airport? Well do not worry! We have it all for you. Delhi is a city that is always moving and lively. We bring to you some spots that you must definitely visit if you have around 7-8 hours between your transit flights.

Red Fort or Lal Quila:

This magnanimous structure is completely built out of red stone. The fort spreads over an astonishing area of 241 sq kms. While you are at it, do not forget to visit Diwan-i-Am (hall of public audience), Diwan-i-Khas (hall of selective audience), the Hamam (the bathroom set), Moti Masjid (pearl mosque), Mumtaz Mahal (one of the main palaces), Naubat Khana (music house).

  • Humayun Tomb:

This is one of the best and first examples of Mughal Architecture. The structure took around 8 years to complete. One must visit this architecture delicacy.

Location- Lodhi Garden: Metro: 1hr; Cab: 43 mins (Rs.260-310)

  • Qutub Minar:

It is the tallest brick minaret in the world and was named after Qutab-ud-din Aibak who is considered the first Muslim ruler of south Asia. Standing at 72.5m and 399 steps, the tower has an added attraction: the iron pillar of Ashoka.

  • Rashtrapati Bhavan:

The official residence of the president of India is a must see if you have the time. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the structure is a fusion of Mughal and classical European architecture. The Mughal Gardens surrounding the building are the cherry on top. Synonymous with luxury, the Mughal Gardens are the epitome of perseverance. The green carpet under your feet will provide you with a captivating experience. Get ready to be pampered by the exotic perfumes and fragrances of these gardens.

  •  Jantar Mantar:

Let you and your kids rack your brains and stare in amazement at this mathematical wonder designed decades ago. An architectural jewel, this project reflects the reaches of Indian architecture. Its 14 geometric devices can be used to measure time, planetary positions and alignment and weather conditions.

  • Ambience Mall, Gurgaon:

For all shopaholics, this is your one-stop close by. For anybody who doesn’t have a lot of time on their hands, Ambience Mall, Gurgaon is a perfect respite. Equipped with shopping brands from around the world and a number of cafeterias and restaurants, this is indeed a perfect stop.

Location- Ambience Island: Cab: 15 mins (Rs.150-160)

  • DLF Emporio:

A transit to Milan or Paris? Don’t worry. We know just the place for you to visit. DLF Emporio is Delhi, or that matter Asia’s premier retail mall. Housing exotic brands such as Chanel, Burberry and so on and so forth, Emporio is the place you want to visit to update your closet. In case you are still not convinced it is often called the ‘Rodeo Drive’ of India.

Location- Vasant Kunj: Metro: 55 mins; Cab: 23 mins (Rs.150-170)

  • Cyber Hub:

One stop at this place and your appetite will be taken care of. Housing all international food chains from Hard Rock Cafe to the Beer Cafe, you will surely find all the savvy restaurants you want.

  • Hauz Khas Village:

Hit this place if you want to blow off some steam from your business trip. A perfect spot for socializing, the Hauz Khas Village has multiple cuisines for you to experiment with. You can definitely loosen up a bit in some of the most frequented clubs present in this area.

  • Chandni Chowk:

Waling Tour of Chandni Chowk

One of the oldest and busiest markets in Old Delhi, India this market will make you wanting to shop more and more. The Red Fort monument is located within the market. It was built in the 17th century by Mughal Emperor of India Shah Jahan and designed by his daughter Jahan Ara. This market was divided by canals (now closed) to reflect moonlight. It remains one of India’s largest wholesale markets.
