Report traffic violations, win a car or free air tickets

Date:

New Delhi: Delhiites may now get a chance to drive home a car or a motorbike or win air tickets from Delhi Police merely by reporting traffic violations on the road through a mobile application.

The initiative has been named “The Traffic Sentinel Scheme” under which citizens can report traffic offences through photographs of video clips uploaded and transmitted with the help of a mobile application, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi said on Thursday.

While violations like red light jumping, dangerous driving and usage of mobile phones while driving shall have to be reported only through videos, other offences can be reported through photographs too, said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.

Reporting cases of “driving against the flow of traffic” can earn one five points, followed by red light jumping and dangerous driving earning three points each, Chander added.

The first prize shall be a car, followed by a motorbike and free air tickets. However, the details and points required to win those prizes will be announced by December 15, he added.
