The demand for SUVs in India has witnessed a strong growth and carmakers are trying every possible way to woo customers. According to Autocar India, the new Hyundai Tucson is likely to tame Indian roads in 2016, as a mid-size SUV filling a gap between the Creta and Santa Fe.
The new Tucson’s design is in line with the company’s Fluidic design theme. The front is dominated by signature hexagonal front grille flanked by LED headlamps. The rear has a clean design with horizontal lines that flow from the rear wheel arches complemented by slim tail lights.
Hyundai Tucson is powered by 1.7-litre diesel engine that generates about 114bhp while the 2.0-litre diesel engine churns out a powerful 182bhp. In India, it could however be offered with a toned down specification. The vehicle could be offered with six-speed automatic transmission. The Tucson has a top speed of 201kmph.
The new Tucson SUV, which is in its third generation, was unveiled at Geneva Motor Show on 3 March, 2015. The India-bound Hyundai Tucson will come with a wheelbase of 2,670mm and will be 4,475mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,655mm in height. The Tucson will come with a fuel tank of 62 litres.
Hyundai Tucson will compete against the like of Honda CR-V, BMW X1, Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Trailblazer and will come with a price tag of Rs 20 lakh – Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
