Indian origin British columnist Hasan Suroor has been arrested by the British Transport Police (BTP), following a video sting operation by anti-paedophile group ‘Unknown TV’.
Suroor, 65, was caught on camera while he allegedly waited for a 14-year-old girl. The ‘girl’, who he met online was in reality a fake online identity created by members of Unknown TV. In the video, he admits to have traveled from Chelsea to Deptford Bridge DLR to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Suroor however said that he was just going out for coffee with the girl, and would not have had sex with her.
However, the vigilante group has records of online conversations involving Suroor and the girl, which are clearly of sexual nature, and point towards a meeting which would eventually lead to sex.
In the video, Suroor is heard saying, “I told her…I’m very old. I didn’t say I want to have sex, I said I leave it up to you entirely.” While not denying the group’s allegations, he asks to them let him go with a warning.
Suroor will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court this week.
Unknown TV’s modus operandi includes posing as minors on dating and social networking sites and keeping a watch for adult men who solicit sex with minors.
