Mohammed Naved alias Usman Khan, who had attacked a Border Security Force bus in Udhampur district of Jammu on August 5, had given conflicting statements about the strength of the group and also his age. He will undergo a lie detector test to get correct information.
New Delhi: Captured terrorist Mohammed Naved alias Usman Khan will be subjected to a polygraph test on Tuesday to nail the misleading statements he has made over the past 10 days about his Indian contacts and the route taken to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir.
The DNA and voice samples of the alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative, who was overpowered by the locals following the attack on a Border Security Force bus in Udhampur district of Jammu on August 5 that left its two personnel dead, will also be obtained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
NIA sources said collecting the DNA samples of the terrorist from Faisalabad in Pakistan could help in proving his nationality. Islamabad has been insisting that Naved is not a Pakistani national.
Naved was produced on Monday before District Judge Amar Nath, who after holding in-camera proceedings, ordered the lie detector test to be performed at 11 AM on Tuesday at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in CGO complex. Earlier, the terrorist gave his written consent for the test, writing in Urdu.
The interrogation
Before being brought from Jammu last weekend, Naved, in his 20s, was confronted with other terrorists from Faisalabad lodged in various jails and his interrogators concluded he was not lying about where he hailed from.
Sources said the terrorist is likely to be questioned about how many people were with him when the group infiltrated Jammu and Kashmir and people he had met and lived with during his two-month stay in the state.
Conflicting information
Sources in the anti-terror agency said Naved has been giving conflicting statements about the strength of the group that infiltrated the state with him and the route taken by them, besides those with whom he came into contact in J&K.
He had also given wrong information about the registration plate number of the vehicle that carried him and accomplice Noman to ‘Tamatar Modh’ on Jammu-Srinagar on August 4, lest it would expose those helping the terror group.
Naved has told his interrogators he was often administered psychotropic substances by his LeT handler who motivated him to wage ‘Jihad’ in India. He was also promised he would be rehabilitated in Pakistan with cash rewards after he carried out 5-6 terror attacks in India.
The young terrorist also told NIA that LeT had threatened his family with dire consequences if they made a hue and cry over his joining the terror network.
