Understanding the difference between govt and private Universities

Admission season is almost over. Some dreams have been fulfilled, whereas, some have been shattered. Some have got the college of their choice, some haven’t. There are some, who have even gone for a year’s gap to live their dreams next year. So the main question arises — why a year gap? Aren’t there enough colleges?

In India the higher education is primarily classified into two– Government Universities and Private Universities.  

According to statistics, 95% students in India prefer to enrol themselves with a Government University for Graduate or Post-Graduate courses than a Private University.

 

Why Government University?

One of the primary reasons for this is the quality of education. It is not without a reason that IITs, IIMs, NITs, AIIMS and others are called the primary institutions of India.

Secondly, it is the cost of education for college education in private colleges. We all know that private colleges have become more of a business than education. Whereas, Government institutions are relatively cost effective.

As of now there are nearly 722 Universities comprised of Government and Private Universities across India. 46 Universities are under central government, 322 Universities are under different state governments of the nation and rest are the Private or Deemed Universities which are being controlled by the independent bodies and trusts. And a total of more than 35,000 colleges are set up across the nation.

 

What makes the difference?

The differences between the two lies in almost all the major factors involved that determines an educational institution.

Faculty: The government universities are considered to have the best teaching faculty as compared to that of private ones. As teaching is the integral aspect of education, one prefer the government institution.

Fees: Then coming to the second important aspect of higher education, the government universities are much more cost effective as compared to private universities. Hence, one will without any doubt will prefer to go for government university where quality education is available with affordable fees.

Campus life: Along with studies and hard work, college life is also about fun and enjoyment with friend and majority of government colleges provide students with good campus life. Its not like Private colleges don’t provide good campus life, but your parents need to shed out some extra bucks for a good campus life.

So, there are considerably good numbers of colleges across the nation, but are they enough for Indian students?
