Minor raped inside BJP office in Kolkata

Date:

Kolkata: A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office at Behala in south-west Kolkata on Friday.

The accused who is also a minor and resident of same locality was arrested late on Friday evening. The girl has been admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment.

“The boy (16) was the neighbour of the girl. Doctors attending to her have confirmed that she had bleeding injuries on her private parts,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Division said.

Asked about the place where the rape took place, Khan said “it happened inside a local Bharatiya Janata Party office.”

BJP spokesperson Ritesh Tewari said that the accused has no association with the party.

“We condemn the incident. The guilty must be punished,” said Tiwari.

“The father of the accused runs a shop beside the BJP office where the key of the office is kept. The accused took the key from there,” he said, adding that law will take its own course in this regard.

Later on Saturday, angry locals vandalised the party office.
