NASA has created three vintage-style posters for newly discovered potentially habitable planets including Kepler-16b, Kepler-186f, and HD 40307g.
All three are exoplanets (planets that don’t orbit the Sun) and all three were discovered by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope, which spotted its 1,000th exoplanet last week.
Kepler-16b has been compared to Luke Skywalker’s Tatooine in Star Wars, although it is probably uninhabitable because its temperatures are similar to that of dry ice (-78.5 degrees Celsius or -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit).
Scientists believe that Kepler-186f may be more habitable because it could have water on its surface.
HD 40307g has been described as a super-Earth and a mini-Neptune. It is twice as large as Earth and eight times as heavy.
However scientists aren’t yet sure if it has a rocky surface buried underneath its layers of gas and ice.
