How to plan an (AWW)some Christmas party

Date:

Onset of December marks the beginning of Christmas preparations. As the winter sets in, people in every household start with the preparations for Christmas. Many things have to done for this grand fiesta. Christmas preparations include house decorations, arrangement of eatables, purchase of gifts for near ones. So much to do so little time – sounds a lot like the run up to Christmas.

Many throw parties on Christmas and that need lot of preparations and planning. If you want to impress your guests in the Christmas party, you have to be very creative and unique in churning out ideas for the party. Successful parties are those in which the hosts have prepared a lot much before the party. But the fuss and frustration of planning at the last moment can be a big party pooper.

All the details — What kind of party should I have? Whom should I invite? How should I decorate? What do I serve? — can make even the most experienced host or hostess a little stressed.

Here are some tips that makes  your party, a jingle bell rock and not a flop!

Build the buzz

Get on social media and hype your event with a unique #hashtag. Make the hashtag simple and visible, so your guests will use in when posting photos during and after the event. This will not only raise visibility and showcase the fun everyone had, but it’s a great crowd sourced view of the experience — all in one place!

Decorating for a Christmas Party

When you are hosting a large party or celebration you want to create an exciting environment for your guests to relax in. Some simple decorations can turn your house into a seasonal wonderland for holiday revelers. In this section, we will show you hot to decorate for a Christmas party, including how to choose a color scheme and how to create a festive Christmas centerpiece.

Find out the budget

The size of your budget will ultimately have a huge impact on the type of Christmas party you organise, determining everything from the food and booze to the entertainment and choice of venue.

Find out how much money you have to spend. You need to know this as early in the process as possible so you don’t start planning something completely unrealistic.

Allocate the budget by what is most important to your group. This will depend on the type of company you work for and the expectations of the people you work with. Remember that the Christmas party is a ‘thank-you’ to the staff, so should be organised for them and not to please directors.

Leave some money aside as a back up. Unexpected costs can always crop up with any size of event, so don’t splurge your entire budget straight away.

Crimbo cocktails

Sozzled Santas aren’t a pretty sight so consider how much free booze you really want to lay on. It’s a tricky balance because guests may leave and grumble if the drink runs dry, but there are ways to control the intake. A big Christmas punch bowl is one idea as you have control over the alcohol level, and it’s more cost-effective and fun than individual cans and bottles. It’s easy to do a non-alcoholic version as well: don’t forget all the non-drinkers out there, they might be disappointed if limited to soda or mineral water.

Pick the perfect theme

Having a theme makes your party more memorable and stand out from the rest. It doesn’t have to be costumes, you can just as easily theme it though the choice of food and drink, the decor and the music. Australia’s hot Christmas heat-wave means padded Santa suits aren’t fun, so how about a cool-down Frozen party? You’ll be thrilled to know they make “Elsa dresses” in adult sizes too …

Making the right noises: choosing the music

Dancing at the Christmas party is usually a must and it’s the perfect opportunity for everyone to really let their hair down. But it does of course depend on the type of group you are catering for and how you want the night to pan out. But if music is key to your party then make sure it is done properly.

Hire a DJ, musician or live band or put together a Christmas playlist to make sure you have music playing. Organise an independent sound system in other areas of the building being utilised so that music flows throughout the party.

Coordinate between the venue, DJ and band to ensure you have all the kit required, such as stage, dance floor, sound systems and, lighting. Alternatively you may need to hire in some extra bits of kit, or for a smaller scale event then an iPod hooked up to the in-house PA or a decent stereo system might be all you need – just make sure your speakers are loud enough.

Managing the event

All this pre-planning is so that you can enjoy the event as well – although you will of course have to deal with any issues if they arise. But good preparation can help it run as smoothly as possible. Keep the itinerary with you.

Introduce yourself to all suppliers, venues and entertainers at the start of the event, so that they know who you are and who to come to if they have any problems or questions.

Providing suppliers with food and beverages during the event is a nice gesture – it really does make life a lot easier if you are dealing with happy workers.

Happy planning!
