Alleged IS fighter returns to Mumbai in NIA custody

Date:

New Delhi: Arif Majeed, one of the four Indian nationals hailing from Kalyan near Mumbai, who were reported to have joined the Islamic State terrorist group, returned to India on Friday.

Majeed is currently said to be in the custody of the National Investigating Agency (NIA), which is interrogating him for more leads on the dreaded terrorist outfit’s activities and about forty Indians being reportedly held captive by it in Iraq.

Ahead of Majeed’s return there were reports that all four wanted to return home.

Sources in the Union Home Ministry had said on Wednesday that members of one of the four youths’ families contacted the government and apprised them of the development.

The youth’s father told officials that his son wanted to come back home but needed government’s help for the same.

Sources said the government has information on three other youths who also want to come back from Iraq where they had gone to fight for the IS.
