Washington: A Florida woman has fully recovered after surviving 45 minutes with no pulse following suffering from a rare medical condition during a routine caesarean operation.
Ruby Graupera-Cassimiro, 40, was undergoing a routine caesarean at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida when she suffered an amniotic fluid embolism. Medical teams worked tirelessly to try and revive the new mother but after recording no pulse for 45 minutes they called in her family and told them to say goodbye.
It was at that moment, with her family gathered around her and doctors preparing to pronounce her death that a blip sounded on Graupera- Cassimiro’s monitor indicating a heartbeat.
Graupera-Cassimiro gave birth to a healthy daughter before amniotic fluid entered her bloodstream and heart and created a vacuum, stopping circulation. Thomas Chakurda, spokesperson said the woman’s survival is a story of two miracles — her resuscitation and the fact that she survived without serious brain damage.
