New Delhi: In order to make the students who have just joined college familiarise with the college culture, various colleges in Delhi University have conducted, or are planning to conduct fresher’s parties. Fresher’s parties are an annual cultural event in DU which provides the newly-inducted students with an opportunity to introduce themselves to their classmates and seniors.
Over the years, students have come up with innovative ways to make these parties more entertaining. Sanya Khurana, a first year student from Kamla Nehru College says, “We were given a theme according to which we had to dress up: disco. It was great fun as we enjoyed looking for clothes and accessories to wear, and bonded with our classmates over shopping trips to Sarojini Nagar and malls in Saket.† Besides dress codes and themes, there are photo booths for clicking crazy pictures, prizes and titles to be given away, lots of junk food and DJ floors also.
Most colleges have more than one freshers party. Besides the party for the entire college, various departments organise fresher’s parties, and so do cultural societies for the new members of the society. Yukti Singh, a first year student from Hindu College says, “I have already attended 3 fresher’s parties and have one more to attend! College is much more fun than what we’d expected it to be, and these are the perfect opportunities to initiate interaction with the seniors.â€
Prakhar Das, a second year student from Kirori Mal College says, “Fresher parties are all about knowing your juniors better. We organise talent shows, push up contests, and other fun activities to put them at ease and bond with them. College is not just about studies and the freshers should know that. â€Â
