Just do it the vine way

Date:

North Carolina: In a dare to impress followers, many teens have posted videos with the ‘DoItForTheVine’ hashtag.

Social media has revolutionized how ordinary people transform into celebrities in the 21st century. By simply filming a quirky clip or posting an artsy photo, young individuals across America and the world have gone viral.

Since Vine debuted in January 2013, the app has crossed over 40 million users who continue to post hilarious, but sometimes dangerous, six second videos.

With various platforms for this new form of fame to materialize, the only thing missing between the Average Joe and a movie deal may be a video of him attempting to ride his younger sibling’s bicycle.

The hashtag, in particular, begs the question: to what extremes will Vine users go with the hopes getting “revined”? At the middle of the spectrum are acts like this young girl, who dances while throwing food around for her dog, or even the young dancer, who shows off her moves. Then, there are those who have gone as far as wreaking havoc in stores and lighting their friends on fire.

Whether they just want to receive a few laughs or stand in the spotlight is unclear. For many, the latter has become a reality. Nash Grier and Cameron Dallas are two notable Vine users who gained stardom from their creativity with the app. What started out as a simple attempt to post funny videos of their family and friends has transformed into the production of a full-length feature film.

Vine has a combined following of 14 million people – more than the population of Mumbai! Back in 1968, Andy Warhol had predicted, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Not too bad of a guess, it turns out!
