Germany’s Miracle Boy

Date:

Every German’s soul mate – Mario Götzea – at just 22 will go down in history for his legendary goal at the 113th minute of FIFA World Cup 2014 which saw Deutschland win their fourth World Cup title after 24 years.

The Beginning

Mario was born on June 3, 1992 in Memmingen, an old town in Southern Germany. A product of Dortmund’s youth academy, he first entered the club as an eight-year-old.

International

In 2010, Götze had his international debut against Sweden, becoming the youngest German international since Uwe Seeler.

Götze’s scored his first goal for Germany against Brazil on in August 2011; at the age of 19 years he became the joint-youngest goal scorer for the German national team in the post-war era along with Klaus Stürmer, since then he scored 11 international goals in 35 caps.

In March 2012, Götze signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund, keeping him at Borussia Dortmund until 2016. His contract, however, contained a release clause from Dortmund, triggered by a fixed transfer fee of at least €37 million.

Gotze’s betrayal

In April 2013, it was announced that Götze was moving in July 2013 to rivals Bayern Munich after they triggered Götze’s release clause of €37 million.

The transfer made Götze the most expensive German player of all time. Götze’s debut season with Bayern has yielded a mixture of success and frustration, scoring 15 goals and providing 14 assists in all competition.
