No new cars for ministers PMO to monitor spending

Date:

New Delhi: In a move to probably bring in austerity in his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all the ministers to refrain from buying new cars, said sources.

Modi, whose working style had garnered headlines in less than a month of assuming office, has also asked the ministers to take PMO’s approval for any purchases above Rs 1 lakh, according to sources.

The Narendra Modi-led NDA government is receiving flak for raising prices of essential commodities like sugar and also hiking the railway fare. This latest move seems to be an effort by the Prime Minister to empathise with the general public who are already reeling under severe price hike.
