Kolkata: All the commuters who were stuck inside a tunnel of the Kolkata Metro has been evacuated with the help of the metro officials. It took too long to evacuate the passengers since the metro line was extremely old. The passengers had to spend nearly two hours inside a tunnel when a south-bound non-AC metro rake developed snag soon after leaving the Park Street station on Monday. Several passengers fainted and had to be taken to the hospital.Â
Metro Railway spokesperson R N Mahapatra said the snag developed at 11:25 am as the train entered the tunnel after leaving Park Street. He said all the passengers were evacuated from both sides of the rake by ladders which went down to the tracks.
Normal services were disrupted since then. The Railway authorities ran truncated services from Dum Dum to Central on one side and Mahanayak Uttamkumar (Tollygunge) to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) on the other.
