New Delhi: Delhi University is not all about St Stephen’s, Hindu, or SRCC, the specimens of excellence. There are colleges under DU that lack the basic facilities and amenities. Â
The major problem faced by the students is lack of toilets. The condition of toilets are bad, because of poor maintenance. A student from PGDAV College said, “In our college, the washrooms are never cleaned, and a foul smell emanates in and around the toilets. The complaints from the students are often ignored by the college authorities.â€
These colleges lack drinking water facilities. Several cases of students falling sick after drinking the water from the college are reported. “Dust particles can be seen in the water provided by our college,†several students complain.
The colleges where students complain most about drinking water and toilet facilities are Shivaji, Rajdhani, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, PGDAV, Satyawati, and Shyam Lal.
Infrastructural problems, too, compound the scenario. The buildings of most of the colleges are old, and need renovation. In Kirori Mal College, a student standing in the balcony fell because the balcony gave way.
Admissions on sports quota are something to cheer about. But a properly maintained play ground is conspicuous by its absence. “We cannot win a single match in cricket or football because of lack of a playground,†said a student in Shivaji College.
