Srini set to rule world cricket

Date:

New Delhi: Clearing the decks for his election as the first chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Supreme Court on Thursday declined to hear Cricket Association of Bihar’s plea to restrain ousted BCCI chief N Srinivasan from participating in the polls slated for June 27. Srinivasan is all set to become the chairman.

The CAB’s lawyer told a bench of Justices J S Khehar and C Nagappan that Srinivasan must be restrained from assuming any position in the ICC in view of his undertaking to the court he will not act as BCCI chief till the probe into IPL corruption case gets over. The lawyer said that after his ouster from the BCCI in the wake of serious charges, Srinivasan should not represent at the ICC at all. It also brought up the ongoing investigation against Srinivasan on the orders of the Supreme Court and questioned how he could be allowed to go ahead and join ICC now.

The bench however remained unimpressed with the arguments after going through the previous orders passed by the court. “There is no conflict and our order is clear,” said the bench while declining to hear the plea.
