Teachers on enrolment drive in Chennai

Date:

Chennai: Corporation teachers in Chennai have started a campaign to improve enrolment in 284 schools under civic body. The campaign was started on Saturday to attract students to corporation schools in Chennai.

The campaign will cover more than 2,000 slum neighborhoods and will seek to create awareness among parents on the superior facilities at the schools.

“The number of students came down by 20% in many of the schools last year. Most of the parents do not know about the facilities at Chennai Corporation Schools. The results have improved. But the number of students has decreased,” said a representative of the Corporation school teachers.

Teams of teachers will visit each neighbourhood to popularise English medium stream in 122 primary schools. A total of 28 kindergarten schools have also been opened this year in addition to the 25 last year.

The number of students have decreased in the schools due to re-location of the slums.
