11 killed in J & K avalanche

Srinagar: Eleven persons were killed in avalanche in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. While five army men lost their lives in Kargil, three labourers have also been killed. Two persons were killed in Kulgam district, one woman died in a roof collapse in Shopian.

Authorities have issued a high danger avalanche warning for higher reaches of the Valley and asked people not to venture on steep slopes till Wednesday evening. “State Disaster Management Authority has issued a fresh high danger avalanche warning for hilly areas of Uri, Tangdhar, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Kargil,” an official spokesperson said

Heavy snowfall across Kashmir has paralysed normal life in the Valley, snapping its links with the outside world.
