New Delhi: The Fourth Round of Bangladesh – India Friendship Dialogue was launched on Saturday in New Delhi. Titled “Rise of Fundamentalism in South Asia: Threat to Regional Integrationâ€, the speakers analysed the pathology of religious extremism in the sub continent. They opined for greater economic cooperation, collaboration and connectivity between the countries to solve the problem of religious fundamentalism.
The first day of the dialogue saw two sessions. Saurabh Shukla moderated the first session, and Prof. Syed Manzoorul Islam the second. Rajya Sabha Member Tarun Vijay impressed on the idea that it was time India and Bangladesh made a new chapter of meaningful cooperation between the two. Muhammad Zamir, former Ambassador and member of the international affairs committee of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, stressed on the need to enact a civilized and humane code of conduct in dealing with people from each other’s country – especially for sensitive issues like killings on the border.
Human rights proponent Advocate Sultana Kamal stressed on the need to differentiate between religion and statecraft and focus on the need to emphasize on humanity alone.
 The dialogue will continue on 02 March 2014.
