How to live a long distance relationship

Relationships in themselves are a lot of effort, having thousands of miles separating you from your partner makes long-distance relationships seem even more daunting. But with the right mindset, plenty of emotional connection and awareness, long-distance relationships do work out. Some ways that would help maintain a healthy life and bond with your loved one far-far away:

1. Honesty must be your first policy: You need to be honest with yourself and with your partner. Long distance relationships offer no room for guessing games of hard to get or otherwise. Be honest about your feelings regardless of how irrational they may seem. Tell each other where you stand in the relationship. That means both people know if the relationship is open, closed or on hiatus. This is even important for any lengthy separations.

2. Communicate in diverse mode: In a world where short text messages are becoming more of a norm, getting a nice long email (from anyone), but there is nothing more romantic than a lovely and long handwritten letter sent by post. It takes a little longer to arrive, but it’s just that much more meaningful, especially if you don’t know it’s coming.

3. Make an effort to see each other: In this age of smart phones and video chats it is very easy to make seeing each other happen, even if its once a week. We are very visual creatures. Seeing each other can really kindle the fire between the two of you.

4. Fantasize: Instead of trying to forget about the physical intimacy or even the evening walks in the park you can’t have while you’re apart, fantasize about it. Let your mind create stories that you can share with your partner, and consider acting them out next time you meet.

5. Keep the faith: Yes, it’s rough being apart, but harping on the negative can take a toll on the relationship. Dating coach Masini suggests, “Instead of moaning that you never see each other, talk about the interesting things you’ve been doing and ask what he’s up to.” The happier you act with your life, the happier you’ll actually feel.
