BJP cold-shoulders Jaganmohan

Date:

New Delhi: Jaganmohan Reddy is running from pillar to post to keep the state of Andhra undivided. His latest disappointment comes from BJP, which has cold-shouldered him.

Reddy met Rajnath Singh on Friday seeking BJP support, but the latter remained non-committal. The BJP has openly advocated the formation of Telangana as the party has always favoured creation of smaller states. After the meeting, Reddy claimed Singh assured him he would discuss the matter with his party colleagues and a decision would be taken very soon.

But a close aide of Rajnath Singh said, “I am surprised how Reddy can make claims of support … the party (BJP) stand is clear on Telangana Bill. Reddy also met Mamata Banerjee and Jayalilithaa seeking their support against the bifurcation.

Reddy is widely seen as a possible strong ally of BJP, because the saffron party doesn’t have considerable presence in Andhra Pradesh. Congress may be adamant on passing the Telangana Bill in Parliament, but it seems unlikely in the current session which will end on February 21.
