Life comes to a grinding halt in Andhra

Date:

Hyderabad: Outraged by the tabling of the Telangana Bill in Lok Sabha, YSR Congress Party supporters on early Friday took to the streets in a general strike called by the party to protest against the proposal of divided Andhra Pradesh. The region-wide protest has drastically hit the daily life of people, buses went off the roads and markets remained shut.

Protesters staged road blockades on the national and state highways while merchants pulled down the shutters. Theatres cancelled noon shows and the protesters roamed the streets to implement the bandh.

YSR Congress Party said, they would fight tooth and nail to stall the Bill.

“We condemn the manner in which the Bill has entered the House and it is a black day for parliamentary democracy. The Chair announcing that the Bill is tabled within 10 seconds of her arrival shows that the Centre has no respect for democratic values and wants to push through its agenda by hook or crook, said Jaganmohan Reddy.
