Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, is in the news for the right reason. And Prof G Jayanand, who taught the new Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, Biology and Moral Science at this school, has proud memories of his student:

Satya was my student from Class 6 to 8. He was a very quiet child, well-behaved and extremely intelligent. He always sat in the second or third row and paid rapt attention. He was an ideal student, extremely fond of reading. He sat in the library for hours. Always wanted to get into IT.

He had three favourite subjects: Maths, Maths and Maths!

Composed, respectful, and friendly, he was essentially a loner. I don’t remember him being naughty at all. He played cricket for the school and was fond of taking part in debates.

He was quiet – never talked about big plans or what he wanted to accomplish as an adult. But we as teachers could observe that he was preparing mentally for something big.

But even in our wildest dreams, we did not think he would have this stature! Today, we are just so proud of this child.
