COVID-19 | Health Ministry issues revised discharge policy; the key takeaways from Health Min briefing

Date:

As India’s COVID-19 count surges beyond the 67,000-mark, Union Health Ministry on Monday issued a revised discharge policy for COIVD-19 patients under which a person having mild infection can be discharged after 10 days of symptom onset and if there is no fever for three days.

Here are the key takeaways from the Health Ministry’s media briefing today-

– Discharge policy has been changed because several countries have changed their policy from test-based strategy to symptom and time-based strategy. India has also changed it based on that.

– As per revised policy, mild/very mild/pre-symptomatic cases admitted to COVID-19 care facility can be discharged after 10 days of symptom onset and if there is no fever for 3 days.

– There is no need to test before discharge but home isolation should be advised after discharge for seven days.

– In last 24 hours, there were 4,213 new cases and 1,559 recoveries. Recovery rate is now at 31.15%.
