New Delhi: French auto major Renault on Thursday launched its much awaited hatchback Kwid in India starting Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Kwid will be offered in six variants with the top spec RXT (O) trim costing Rs 3.53 lakh.
The Kwid is expected to compete with Maruti Suzuki’s best seller Alto and Hyundai Eon. The French carmaker claims it returns 25.17 km per litre on petrol.
Powering the Renault Kwid will be an all-new 799cc, 3-cylinder engine, which too has been developed by Renault-Nissan alliance. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, this engine churns out 54bhp and 72Nm.
With a weight around 660kg, the vehicle will surely offer a great power to weight ratio. The company claims that this engine will help the vehicle return the best-in-class mileage of 25.17kmpl. With such an impressive fuel-efficiency figure, the Kwid will also become the country’s most fuel-efficient petrol car.
The car comes with various features including class leading ground clearance of 180 mm and a boot capacity of 300 litres with a seven-inch touchscreen Media Nav system and a digital instrument cluster.
The car wears a strong-looking Renault grille with rectangular headlamps and a muscular, squared-off design.
The company, which sells various popular models like Duster and Lodgy, plans to grow its sales and service presence across the country to reach 280 outlets by next year, almost doubling its current reach.
The Kwid will be made at the Renault-Nissan Chennai factory, and as much as 98 per cent of the suppliers are Indian.
