50 years of being Mr Perfectionist

Whether you call him Mangal Pandey, Ghajini or PK, Perfectionist Aamir Khan has brought several characters to life with his acting excellence. The actor, who has evolved from a romantic hero to a perfectionist in a career spanning 25 years, is still the unstoppable hero of Bollywood.

Aamir, as one of the best actors of Bollywood, celebrates his 50th birthday on Saturday. He is still a delight to watch on-screen and never fails to surprise his fans with his diverse array of roles.

1.       Aamir’s full name is Aamir Hussain Khan.

2.       His acting debut as an adult was in Ketan Mehta’s Holi (1984) and not Qayamat se Qayamat Tak.

3.       Aamir Khan is not just the top Bollywood actor but also has characteristics that describe him beyond cinema. The actor was very active in sports during his school days and was also the state tennis champion from Maharashtra. He also played tennis at a gymkhana when he graced the final match of All-India Women’s Open Tennis Tournament. 

4.       Aamir started the trend of ‘one-movie-at-a-time’ in Bollywood. Now, most of the top actors in the industry only take up one movie at a time.

5.       Aamir never worked with Aishwarya Rai in any of movies. The closest they have come to working together is in a Coke commercial.

6.       Aamir took special permission from Amitabh Bachchan to use his son Abhishek’s example in Taare Zameen Par.

7.       After reading the script of Ghajini, Aamir asked director A.R. Murugadoss to approach Salman Khan instead of him.

8.       Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Apke Hain Kaun, one of the biggest blockbusters, was offered to Aamir once but he rejected the film as he couldn’t find the script too appealing.

9.       Aamir and Juhi Chawla became close friends on the sets of QSQT (1988), but their friendship soured during the shoot of Ishq in 1997 when Aamir’s played a prank on her and Juhi was furious with him. They haven’t done any film together since then. Before Ishq, Aamir and Juhi were seen in 7 films, out of which 5 were flops.

10.   According to his wife Kiran Rao, Aamir suffers from eating disorder. He also doesn’t like bathing.
